The title sounds scary I know, but I promise that this is the real #dreamteam. These 3 amazing hair stylists work at Prive by Laurent D in NY, lucky for us they will be coming down to Miami every 2 or 3 months give or take. Their names are Amy Rudd (hair colorist and hair product guru), Michele Fury (Balayage-Colorist Pro) and Guillaume M (Master French Stylist).
I received an invitation to be part of their first trip to Miami during Swim Week. I was like hmm this looks interesting but I fear for my life. I’m very protective of who cuts and styles my hair because it’s been a long time since I actually made any changes. I was excited/hesitant so I went on a mission to get feedback from people who had actually styled their hair with the team in the Dominican Republic. All I heard was positive feedback from everyone that got their hair done by this amazing team. Also I did my Instagram search looking for pictures of their work and found exactly what I was looking for.
Natural and flattering is what they are all about. They will evaluate your hair and then make the professional assessment of what they believe is the best for you.
Pre - Haircut
All of you who fear for your hair length I got the perfect solution for that, his name is Guillaume. He is a very talented and creative master hair stylist from France.
First thing I said was please do not cut more than an inch, and his answer was it’s your hair we will cut whatever you want. Then I saw the light! After a quick assessment I then went to Amy’s wonderland. This girl knows everything about hair products, truths, myths and lies.
Amy took me back to get my hair washed before my haircut. Curious Stephanie started asking about all the products she was going to use and why.
First step is detoxifying the hair to remove the impurities and/or any products left on the hair:
Malibu Hard Water (http://www.malibuc.com/solutions/cn/38/Hard-Water)
Detox your hair by removing the minerals that have deposited themselves on each strand.
Draw out even hard-to-budge hard water mineral deposits with a crystallized vitamin C wellness remedy
Prevent future deposits of malicious minerals while removing discoloration and brassiness caused by iron or copper
Infuse moisture, shine and manageability with a targeted hard water wellness kit containing a daily shampoo and conditioner along with weekly wellness remedies
Purified hair means natural hair, so you get better results with any chemical service including color, highlights, perms, keratin treatments and relaxers
Second step cleansing your scalp:
Christophe Robin Cleansing purifying scrub with sea salt: A moisturizing shampoo formula enriched with sea salt to cleanse and soothe sensitive or oily scalps while delivering essential hydration. This formula is Paraben and Phthalates free. This product is free of silicone and colorants. The scalp reaches an ideal level of hydration within 24 hours and all irritating sensations are significantly reduced. These measured effects are felt immediately and can last for up to four days. (True that)
Third step was the most amazing and calming hair scalp massage ever.
I asked why the haircut first, maybe it is a no brainer but I wanted to know. First the haircut to see what the canvas is going to look like. This allows the hair colorist (Michele) to work the Balayage with an accurate length for excellent results. She mentioned how having your hair cut before getting it colored would allow her to give the hair dimension and depth. “It’s like painting in a white canvas” said Michele.
Fear me not! Guillaume got this! He started the haircut by asking me to stand up and I was like really? He said he practices “energetic haircuts”, because your energy is not the same when you are standing up rather than sitting down. He started the energetic haircut and I stood for about 4 minutes while we chatted. Then back to the chair to finish his masterpiece. He trimmed only what I asked and added some layers for movement. It’s amazing what a few layers and a trim can do to your hair. Guillaume suggests you should trim your hair at least once every 2 to 3 months to promote hair growth. He then proceed to blow dry my hair to see the final result. Greatness happened and the Balayage was next.
I was debating whether I should dye my hair or not, because let’s face it once you go down that route there is no turning back. Michele used Olapex products. Olaplex is free of silicone, sulfates, phthalates, DEA, aldehydes, gluten and is never tested on animals. Olaplex reconnects broken disulfide sulfur bonds in the hair. Hair bonds are broken during thermal, mechanical and chemical services. Long story short best product to dye your hair.
She began “painting my white canvas” after my beautiful haircut. To my surprise she uses plastic wrap rather than aluminum foil. The reasoning behind this is that aluminum foil heats the hair too fast therefore you have no control over the process. Using plastic wrap allows her to have absolute control for an even hair color.
After Amy and Michele colored my hair we went back to the same process before my haircut. Amy recommends using a scalp scrub at least once a week to remove all impurities and to maintain a vibrant hair color. A healthy scalp promotes shine and avoids dullness.
The Final Makeover
Let the pictures speak for themselves, this team did an amazing job and I couldn’t be happier.
